This late 1950's view of Big Rock Candy Mountain harks to a smaller, simpler time. There is a much larger "footprint" of development there now but the mountain is just as evocative as ever.
When possible, we include the back side of a postcard for reference (and entertainment). This one has two notable features. First is the Big Rock Candy Mountain postmark. Second is the postcard writer's admission of getting the addressee's name wrong. Pretty hilarious!
Here's another sweet view of Big Rock Candy Mountain. Love the old cards.
This is an endearing view of the Big Rock Candy Mountain store. Note the late 1930's sedan pulled up close to the left side of the store. Based on the sedan pulling the teardrop trailer, we're guessing this view dates to the very late 1940's. Also note the gas pumps. Those are both Texaco pumps, one in uncommon white and the other is the very common red rendition. We have included a better view of the uncommon white Texaco pump here for reference. You can barely make out the signature fire chief's hat on each of the pumps (as shown on the red pump at left.) Note also that the pumps did not have their signature globes atop each. It looks like this application used light poles above each pump.
Above is a bigger picture view of Big Rock Candy Mountain looking south on US 89. The Sevier River is visible just left of the roadway. The area has been extensively developed over the years.
